The Movies in the Park program was created not only as an outdoor entertainment event but as a fundraiser for local charities. Profits generated by on-site sales will be kept in Petaluma and used to fund programs that may not exist without our help.
The City of Petaluma Recreation Division has announced a new producer this year. John Storck, a lifetime Sonoma County resident brings to the program over 20 years of event production and film experience. His ties with the film industry will allow first run feature films to be shown at the Summer events and local entertainment to perform.
Jan Mandrell, head of parks and recreation for the city of Petaluma, is working with John to create a fun, family entertainment series throughout the Summer. Several other staff members from the city of Petaluma and local residents have donated their time into making these events a success.
After many years at McNear park it was suggested that the program be moved to a more central location. Lucchesi park was chosen as it allows for a larger audience, more parking and weekly events throughout the Summer. Lucchesi can also allow for pre-show live entertainment that was originally banned due to the close proximity of residential housing.
In the wake of County and State budget cuts as well as a growing unemployment rate. It was decided to make the entire Summer event series completely free to the public. "Just bring a blanket or a chair and come to the park!" The events are meant to get people out with their families and bring the community together.
Local groups and non-profits are welcome to contact the program.
Volunteers are always welcome.
